EDITOR’S CHOICE: HASHIMA
AUGUST 28 AT 21:00 CEST
Like every month, Editor’s Choice presents a hand-picked favorite of Stingray DJAZZ's editor-in-chief. Hashima, a jazz quartet from Belgrade, Serbia, takes its name from a Japanese ghost island. Hashima’s music is strongly connected to the island’s murky, dissonant atmosphere, which dominates the group’s compositions. Enjoy Hashima’s performance on Stingray DJAZZ on Friday, August 28 at 21:00 CEST, and get a worthwhile look at Serbia’s jazz scene.
Hashima - Palilula Theatre
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28 AT 21:00 CEST
Hashima is not only the name of a Japanese island, but also that of a Belgrade jazz quartet. This foursome is made up of tenor saxophonist Srđan Mijalković, drummer Aleksandar Hristić, bassist Vanja Todorović, and guitarist Igor Mišković. They take their inspiration from Serbian literature and the music of jazz legends Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Dave Liebman, Charles Lloyd, and Enrico Rava. Hashima's music explores philosophical ideas about human nature, based on the view that freedom of expression equals improvisation.
