STINGRAY DJAZZ PRESENTS: MONDAY & WEDNESDAY NIGHTS AT MOODS

MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS IN JUNE AT 21:00

This June, Stingray DJAZZ presents ‘Monday & Wednesday Night at Moods’, a series of special broadcasts from Zurich’s internationally renowned jazz club. Some of the most exciting artists in contemporary music travel to Switzerland to perform at Moods. Enjoy a selection of their finest performances on Monday and Wednesday evenings in June on Stingray DJAZZ. On June 2, delight in the sounds of the trio of virtuoso pianist Sylvie Courvoisier, who likes to work the strings of the piano and uses the body as a percussion instrument. June 4 brings the vibrant rhythms of bassist Vali Mayer with guitarists Biréli Lagrène and Holzmanno Winterstein, who pay tribute to the late German gypsy jazz guitarist Häns'che Weiss. On June 9, let yourself be mesmerized by American trumpeter Theo Croker and his bandmates Irwin Hall, Liya Grigoryan and Eric Wheeler. In all likelihood, Theo Croker inherited his impalpable flair from his late grandfather, legendary trumpeter Doc Cheatham. June 11 features French keyboardist Laurent Coulondre and drummer Yoann Serra performing music from Coulondre’s album "Gravity Zero". They explore jazz, funk, fusion, progressive rock, and hardbop, resulting in groovy, fresh jazz rock that calls to mind Snarky Puppy and Chick Corea. On June 16, Acid jazz pioneer and talented Hammond B3 organ player James Taylor brings his nonpareil quartet of Mark Cox, Andrew McKinney and Pat Illingworth to Moods. On June 18, the Israeli trio Shalosh, consisting of Gadi Stern, David Michaeli, and Matan Assayag, presents their edgy jazz-with-a-rock-attitude at Moods. On June 23, Big Yuki (aka Masayuki Hirano) ventures a musical leap into the future. His unique compositions combine jazz, hip-hop, soul, rock, and electronics. Lastly, on June 25, Afrobeat founder Fela Kuti's youngest son Seun performs at Moods. The singer and saxophonist combines his father's political engagement with the charisma and wit of a great entertainer. Seun Kuti appears with his band Egypt 80. Since its opening in 1992, jazz club Moods has developed into one of Zurich’s largest and most prominent cultural venues. At the same time, it has become one of Europe’s prominent jazz clubs which today enjoys a well-deserved worldwide reputation among musicians and critics. The venue books a large variety of genres, ranging from jazz and soul to electronic and international music. Sylvie Courvoisier Trio plays a contemporary take on the 1990s downtown Manhattan Knitting Factory scene. Virtuoso pianist Courvoisier likes to work the strings of the piano and uses the body as a percussion instrument.

Since its opening in 1992, jazz club Moods has developed into one of Zurich’s largest and most prominent cultural venues. At the same time, it has become one of Europe’s prominent jazz clubs which today enjoys a well-deserved worldwide reputation among musicians and critics. The venue books a large variety of genres, ranging from jazz and soul to electronic and international music. French guitar virtuoso Biréli Lagrène pays tribute to one of the most prominent exponents of gipsy jazz: German gitarist Häns'che Weiss (1951-2016). Lagrène performs with bassist Vali Mayer and guitarist Holzmanno Winterstein, two former sidemen of Weiss'.

Since its opening in 1992, jazz club Moods has developed into one of Zurich’s largest and most prominent cultural venues. At the same time, it has become one of Europe’s prominent jazz clubs which today enjoys a well-deserved worldwide reputation among musicians and critics. The venue books a large variety of genres, ranging from jazz and soul to electronic and international music. In all likelihood, Theo Croker inherited his impalpable flair for trumpet playing and performing from his late grandfather, legendary trumpeter Doc Cheatham. Catchy melodies and rhythmic finesse characterize Croker's highly original compositions.

At the same time, it has become one of Europe’s prominent jazz clubs which today enjoys a well-deserved worldwide reputation among musicians and critics. The venue books a large variety of genres, ranging from jazz and soul to electronic and international music. One of the artists performing at Moods is Laurent Coulondre, a rising star on the French jazz scene. His music explores jazz, funk, fusion, progressive rock and hardbop, resulting in groovy, fresh jazz rock that calls to mind Snarky Puppy and Chick Corea.


James Taylor Quartet

MONDAY, JUNE 16 AT 21:00

Since its opening in 1992, jazz club Moods has developed into one of Zurich’s largest and most prominent cultural venues. At the same time, it has become one of Europe’s prominent jazz clubs which today enjoys a well-deserved worldwide reputation among musicians and critics. The venue books a large variety of genres, ranging from jazz and soul to electronic and international music. Acid jazz pioneer James Taylor is a talented Hammond B3 organ player. Throughout the years, his James Taylor Quartet has developed a unique sound in which influences from funk, R'n'B, psychedelic jazz and even film music are clearly audible.


Shalosh

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18 AT 21:00

Since its opening in 1992, jazz club Moods has developed into one of Zurich’s largest and most prominent cultural venues. At the same time, it has become one of Europe’s prominent jazz clubs which today enjoys a well-deserved worldwide reputation among musicians and critics. The venue books a large variety of genres, ranging from jazz and soul to electronic and international music. Among Israel's many musical discoveries is Shalosh: three young musicians with an electrifying sound. At Moods, Shalosh plays raw, edgy jazz with a rock attitude, in which tender melodies accompany complex rhythms.


Big Yuki

At the same time, it has become one of Europe’s prominent jazz clubs which today enjoys a well-deserved worldwide reputation among musicians and critics. The venue books a large variety of genres, ranging from jazz and soul to electronic and international music. Big Yuki ventures a musical leap into the future. His unique compositions combine jazz, hiphop, soul, rock, and electronics. At Moods, Big Yuki blows up a storm on stage.

The singer and saxophonist combines his father's political engagement with the charisma and wit of a great entertainer.
