Every Sunday evening in February, Stingray DJAZZ premieres new concerts that were all recorded at jazzahead! 2024 in Bremen, Germany. Annual trade fair, exhibition, and festival jazzahead! is one of the international jazz community’s most important events. Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. This February, Stingray DJAZZ puts the spotlight on up-and-coming Nordic and Austrian ensembles that embrace diversity and togetherness. On February 2, immerse yourself in the catchy and playful melodies of Norwegian pianist Liv Andrea Hauge’s Trio, known for their straightforward yet melancholic sound. On February 9, be captivated by the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra from Norway as they perform Marianna Sangita Røe’s commissioned piece ‘Spiti/Hjem’. This composition uniquely blends a wide array of instruments, including the oud, saz, tablas, joik, accordion, saxophone, tuba, drum kit, cello, fiddle, cajon, and various frame drums. On February 16, experience the deeply personal and introspective music of Finnish saxophonist Linda Fredriksson’s Juniper quartet. Finally, on February 23, explore the imaginative landscapes of ‘Sweeping Dragon’, a project by the Austrian duo Sinfonia de Carnaval, featuring cellist and pianist Anna Lang and wind instrument player Alois Eberl. jazzahead! 2024 - Liv Andrea Hauge Trio

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the ensembles presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is the Liv Andrea Hauge Trio. Hauge, who is originally from Northern Norway and now based in Oslo, writes compositions that emphasize groove, straightforward and catchy motifs, and dynamic interplay. Her music blends playfulness with a touch of melancholy, providing ample space for improvisation. This is also evident in a commission of a large-scale piece for a trio, three vocalists, and a full symphony orchestra on the occasion of the inauguration of Bodø24 as European capital of culture. At jazzahead! 2024, Liv Andrea Hauge (piano) appears with Georgia Wartel Collins (bass) and August Glännestrand (drums).

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the projects presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is the collaboration of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra with Greek/Norwegian vocalist, lyricist, and composer Marianna Sangita Røe. Annually, the Molde Jazz Festival offers a Norwegian musician or band the opportunity to create a new project with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Marianna Sangita Røe was the recipient in 2021. Her commissioned work, ‘Spiti/Hjem’, blends diverse musical elements and features an array of instruments including the oud, saz, tablas, joik, accordion, saxophone, tuba, drum kit, cello, fiddle, cajon, and various frame drums. The jazzahead! 2024 lineup includes Marianna Sangita Angeletaki Røe (vocals, percussion), Efrén Lopez (oud, hurdy gurdy, laouto, guitar, percussion), Ina Sagstuen (vocals, effects, percussion), Risten Anine Gaup (vocals, joik), Mira Tiruchelvam (flute), Sissel Vera Pettersen (alto saxophone, vocals), Jonas Cambien (saxophone, synthesizer), Inger Hannisdal (violin), Oluf Dimitri Røe (violin, vocals), Jovan Pavlovic (accordion), Joel Ring (cello, bass), Heida Karine Johannesdottir (tuba), Sanskriti Shrestra (tablas, percussion), and Martin Langlie (drums).
jazzahead! 2024 - Linda Fredriksson Juniper

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the ensembles presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is Finnish alto and baritone saxophonist Linda Fredriksson’s quartet Juniper. Her debut album ‘Juniper’ received praise from Downbeat: “Fredriksson’s body of work ultimately exists to pull the listener into a complex confessional. It is a deeply personal, self-searching approach to improvisation.” The lineup includes Linda Fredriksson (saxophone), Tuomo Prättälä (piano), Mikael Saastamoinen (bass), and Olavi Louhivuori (drums).

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the duos presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is Sinfonia de Carnaval, composed of two exceptionally adaptable Austrian musicians: Anna Lang (cello, piano) and Alois Eberl (trombone, accordion, vocals). Their project ‘Sweeping Dragon’ is “inspired by the nature all around us, and by places of fantasy beyond it” and blends jazz and pop with electronic sounds and a full range of classical playing techniques.
