AUTUMN LEAVES
EVERY MONDAY IN OCTOBER AT 21:00
What is it about autumn that captivates jazz lovers so? Perhaps it’s the blend of melancholy and joy found in ‘Autumn Leaves’. Written in Paris in 1945 by Hungarian composer József Kozma, the song’s timeless melody holds a universal appeal, becoming the eighth most-recorded tune in jazz history. As the leaves turn across the northern hemisphere, Stingray DJAZZ presents a different legendary performance of this classic every Monday evening in October. On October 6 at 21:00, revel in silken-voiced vocalist Nat 'King' Cole’s romantic rendition of Autumn Leaves, performed in October 1957 on his own television program, The Nat King Cole Show. On October 13 at 21:00, legendary saxophonist Coleman Hawkins waxes lyrical on Autumn Leaves during a 1962 performance in Dinant, Belgium in honor of instrument inventor Adolphe Sax. On October 20, American alto saxophonist Bud Shank and the Pim Jacobs Trio keeps the Comblain-la-Tour audience spellbound with his 1963 bossa nova interpretation of the timeless melody. Lastly, on October 27, trumpet giant Miles Davis and his Second Great Quintet definitively ring in the fall with their iconic October 1964 performance at the Teatro dell'Arte in Milan. Enjoy the best autumn jazz – every Monday evening in October at 21:00 on Stingray DJAZZ!
