CHRISTMAS SPECIALS
DECEMBER 24, 25 & 26 AT 21:00 CET
Perhaps more so than any other type of music, jazz is the soundtrack of December and modern-day Christmas. Songs as “Let It Snow”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”, “White Christmas”, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, “Sleigh Ride”, and good old “Jingle Bells” have been performed and committed to disc by jazz musicians numerous times throughout the history of recorded music. In 2019, Stingray DJAZZ moves away from this jazz-influenced Christmas setting by bringing something different. On Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24 at 21:00 CET, Stingray DJAZZ presents JazzArt Orchestra featuring Jason Marsalis live at Theater Odeon in Zwolle, the Netherlands. On Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25 at 21:00 CET, Stingray DJAZZ premieres Lianne La Havas' performance at Casino de Paris, while on Thursday, December 26 at 21:00 CET, Stingray DJAZZ premieres Lisa Simone’s concert at the Blues sur Seine festival, both in France.
JAZZART ORCHESTRA & JASON MARSALIS - THEATER ODEON
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24 AT 21:00 CET
Jazz, funk, or soul: the JazzArt Orchestra tackles each genre without batting an eye. One of the orchestra’s ambitions is to cooperate with other art disciplines and to contribute to the local cultural climate in the East of the Netherland. For a 2019 concert at Zwolle’s Odeon Theatre, the orchestra is joined by drummer and vibraphonist Jason Marsalis, brother of famous trumpeter and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center Wynton Marsalis. Their creative minds explore various intricacies of modern jazz.
LIANNE LA HAVAS - CASINO DE PARIS
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25 AT 21:00 CET
Lianne La Havas’ performance at Casino de Paris captures the British singer-songwriter at her best: with her crystalline voice she performs soulful melodies full of sincerity. The performance is part of La Havas’ 'Blood Tour', a concert tour promoting her second album 'Blood' (2015). She is accompanied by James Wyatt on keys, Adam Prendergast on bass, Giles King Ashong on drums, and Frida Touray on backing vocals.
