PRIVAT & TROUPE - INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY
SUNDAY, JULY 5 AT 21:00 CEST
Pianist Grégory Privat – pianist José Privat's son – grew up in Martinique where he spent ten years learning to play classical piano, following which he began to compose and improvise himself. Together with virtuoso drummer Sonny Troupé, a master of traditional Guadeloupe music, Privat performs at Sunset/Sunside in Paris for UNESCO International Jazz Day.
SAM MOORE & THE LONDON COMMUNITY GOSPEL CHOIR
SUNDAY, JULY 12 AT 21:00 CEST
‘Jazz a Vienne’ is one of the world's most prestigious jazz festivals. Ever since 1981 it has attracted leading jazz artists, with many of them playing return engagements. Unsurprisingly, the festival's 2012 edition did not fall short of expectations: the lineup was filled with the biggest names in music. Among them was Sam Moore. He is best known for his work with the historic soul duo Sam & Dave. The rapid-fire style, built on the call and response of gospel, was fashioned and pioneered by Sam and became the trademark of the duo. Today he performs with the London Gospel Choir.
SEUN KUTI & EGYPT 80' - CABARET SAUVAGE
SUNDAY, JULY 19 AT 21:00 CEST
Seun Anikulapo Kuti possesses the grace, energy and fury of his father, the legendary artist Fela Kuti. With the musicians of Fela Kuti’s legendary band Egypt 80, Seaun Kuti brings the most original incarnation of Afrobeat to life. Digging deep into different African traditions, Seun has brought his own touch to the music by reflecting the difficulties and cultures of the continent. Three-quarters of Egypt 80's current line-up is composed of musicians who didn’t only play with Fela Kuti, but often were arrested and harassed alongside the founder of the Afrobeat.
GARY PEACOCK TRIO FT. MARC COPLAND & JOEY BARON
SUNDAY, JULY 26 AT 21:00 CEST
Legendary double bass player Gary Peacock's resume reads like the history of jazz from the early 1960s to today: he performed with Albert Ayler, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley, Archie Shepp, Paul Motian. Moreover, he was Keith Jarrett's double bassist for 35 years. Now he takes to the road once again, with pianist Marc Copland and percussionist Joey Baron. The trio cultivates the finest music made in the moment.
