The special program starts on July 5 with English drummer Trevor Richards, who is a passionate advocate for traditional jazz. Richards presents 1930s-style jazz alongside two true legends from that era: bassist Charles ‘Truck’ Parham and tenorist/clarinetist Franz Jackson. Continue watching on July 6 with acclaimed Italian clarinetist, saxophonist, and bandleader Paolo Tomelleri, who is a European master of traditional jazz and swing. With his Big Band, he puts a fresh spin on classic swing-era charts made famous by the likes of Benny Goodman and Count Basie. She was best known in Europe for her powerful, resonant voice, impeccable timing, and the emotional depth she brought to her songs. The Ascona Jazz special on Stingray DJAZZ will come to a close on July 8 with a recording of The Jackson Singers, founded by Bob Jackson in 1980. Admired for their powerful spirituals and gospel music, they are celebrated in churches, cathedrals, and jazz festivals across the continent.
