BLUE MONDAY SPECIAL

MONDAY, JANUARY 16 FROM 14:00 CET

Whether you’re feeling down or happy, there’s nothing like the blues! On Monday, January 16, Stingray DJAZZ pays special attention to Blue Monday, the so-called “most depressing day of the year”. Cry or dance along, give vent to your emotions, and revel in the most melancholic and swinging blues concerts you have ever witnessed. As one simply cannot say “blues” without saying “B.B. King”, Stingray DJAZZ’s Blue Monday kicks off with an up-tempo, funky B.B. King performance that proves this master of the blues guitar never lost his touch. Following B.B. King is American blues musician Seasick Steve, who prefers to be called "a song and dance man". He plays – mostly personalized – guitars and sings about his early days, when he was living rough and doing casual work. After these two guitar giants, legendary saxophonist Archie Shepp, known for his explosive and free improvisations, pays tribute to the roots of the blues in Paris at Jazz à la Villette. To conclude Blue Monday, another true master of the blues guitar and Hammond organ specialist celebrates his 50th anniversary as a touring musician: the illustrious bluesman Lucky Peterson.

B.B. King Live In Concert

MONDAY, JANUARY 16 AT 14:00

This uptempo, funky performance proves that B.B. King, one of the Masters of the Blues Guitar has still got it. The band features some of today's best blues musicians playing all of B.B. King's classic songs.

Seasick Steve Live in Sydney

MONDAY, JANUARY 16 AT 15:00

Steven Gene Wold, commonly known as Seasick Steve, (born circa 1941) is an American bluesman, although he prefers to be called "a song and dance man". He plays guitars (mostly personalized), and sings, usually about his early life living rough and doing casual work.

Archie Shepp "Swinging The Blues"

MONDAY, JANUARY 16 AT 16:40

Jazz à la Villette is an annual festival in Paris, France, dedicated to improvised music. While the festival’s programme is always eclectic and diverse, the aim remains the same: to highlight the most innovative jazz artists of both the future and the past. The festival celebrates jazz history, often paying tribute to a particularly important year or an inspiring musician, while at the same time bringing the modern jazz of today. In 2014, veteran saxophonist Archie Shepp performed at Jazz à la Villette. Shepp's name has made it into the majority of jazz history books. Known for his explosive and free improvisations, the saxophonist now pays tribute to the roots of the blues.

Lucky Peterson & The Organization

MONDAY, JANUARY 16 AT 18:15

Every year since 1970, the German city of Burghausen has been hosting one of the largest jazz festivals in the world. During Burghausen International Jazz Week, Burghausen becomes a 'Bavarian jazz mecca': guests from all over the world join the Burghausers to enjoy the most wonderful jazz performances as the colorful hustle and bustle of spectators and musicians shake up the city. In 2019, one of these artists is the legendary bluesman Lucky Peterson, master of the blues guitar and Hammond organ, who celebrates 50 years on stage. Peterson is accompanied by his band The Organization, augmented by the talented vocalist Tamara Tramell. In a singular performance, she offers a fascinating mix of southern soul and modern R&B, exploring the limits of blues and funk.
