EDITOR’S CHOICE: FRANK PAAVO QUINTET
SATURDAY, JULY 26 AT 21:00
Like every month, Editor’s Choice presents a hand-picked favorite of Stingray DJAZZ's editor-in-chief, Karen van der Stal. This month's choice fell on saxophonist Frank Paavo, a stalwart of the Dutch jazz scene since the early 1980s and the self-proclaimed “Jazzpainter of Amsterdam”. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant hard-bop tradition of the late 1950s and early 1960s, Paavo’s playing bursts with positive energy, rhythmic intensity, and old-fashioned swing. Recorded live at the JazzConnect concert in Westbroek, The Netherlands, on October 28, 2018, this performance features his Quintet: Frank Paavo on saxophones, Kurt Weiss on trumpet, Dirk Balthaus on piano, Olaf Meijer on bass, and Steve Altenberg on drums. Enjoy the Frank Paavo Quintet on Stingray DJAZZ, on Saturday, July 26 at 21:00!
