Celebrate summer with Stingray DJAZZ! To get you in the Latin Summer Mood, Stingray DJAZZ presents the MPB Series, every Friday in July. Da Pá Virada Sessions' MPB Series explores contemporary interpretations of traditional Brazilian Popular Music, starting with singer songwriter Joaquim on July 3. His music explores a unique fusion of styles and invites audiences to discover the rich tradition of modern Brazilian music. On July 10, we spotlight Verônica Ferriani, who is recognized for her powerful voice and distinctive musical identity. Her career spans a variety of styles within MPB, and she stands out for the intensity and emotion of her performances. On July 17, Verônica is followed by Mahmundi, who is a singer, songwriter, and music producer from Rio de Janeiro. A Latin Grammy nominee, her work spans electronic music, indie, and lo-fi with 1980s influences. Continue your journey through Brazil with Thalma de Freitas on July 24. Daughter of the renowned pianist Laércio de Freitas, her work is a masterful fusion of MPB, jazz, and Afro-Brazilian influences. In 2019, her album ‘Sorte!’ was nominated for a Grammy Award. The MPB Series on Stingray DJAZZ will come to a close on July 31 with a performance of Pedro Viáfora and Celso Viáfora, a father-and-son duo that brings together different generations of Brazilian music. They reinterpret the tradition of MPB with sharp social commentary, using irony and everyday language to address Brazil’s structural challenges while celebrating moments of beauty and poetry.
