EDITOR’S CHOICE: DIDIER LOCKWOOD
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24 AT 21:00
Like every month, Editor’s Choice presents a hand-picked favorite of Stingray DJAZZ's editor-in-chief, Karen van der Stal. This month's choice fell on French violinist Didier Lockwood, who occupies an essential place in contemporary jazz. Not only did he perform with the greatest names in music, he also produced many artists and taught younger generations. He celebrated the fortieth anniversary of his fruitful career at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Since the early 1970, in which Lockwood first recorded with French progressive rock band Magma, he always embraced the dominant musical trends of the second half of the 20th century: jazz and rock. At this celebratory concert, which took place on November 14, 2013, Lockwood surrounded himself with Patricia Petibon (vocals), Suzanne Manoff and Francis Lockwood (piano), Fiona Monbet and Vadim Repin (violin), Biréli Lagrène (guitar), Thomas Dutronc (vocals, guitar), Diego Imbert (double bass), Benoît Sourisse (Hammond organ), André Charlier and Christian Vander (drums), Jannick Top (bass), and Benoît Widemann (keyboards).
