Every Sunday evening throughout February, Stingray DJAZZ premieres new concerts at 21:00 CET. This month, special attention goes to the North Sea Jazz Festival’s rich video archives, from the years the festival was held in The Hague. The largest indoor music festival in the world, North Sea Jazz is known globally as the event that explores the past, present and future of jazz in three days. Its audiovisual archives hold priceless gems from jazz history. On February 5, enjoy the Wayne Shorter Quartet. Shorter, an acclaimed saxophonist, looks back on a notable career, having been the primary composer for Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, a key member of Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, and alongside Joe Zawinul a co-founder of the lauded jazz fusion group Weather Report. Let the Superstar Quintet amaze you on February 12: trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, saxophonist Joe Henderson, drummer Tony Williams, bassist Ron Carter, and pianist Kenny Baron put on a concert of cosmic proportions. On February 19, experience exuberant energy with the popular American jazz fusion band Spyro Gyra. On February 26, enjoy the exciting transatlantic collaboration between big band The Skymasters and special guest Clark Terry on trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals. The North Sea Jazz Festival is the largest indoor music festival in the world, known globally as the event where the past, present and future of jazz are featured within three days. Next to a firm base of jazz as the festival’s staple music genre, many others, such as blues, soul, funk, or hip hop, pass by. In 1986, renowned American saxophonist Wayne Shorter performed with his quartet at the North Sea Jazz festival in The Hague. The acclaimed musician has quite a notable career, having been a composer for Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, a member of Miles Davis' Second Great Quintet and a co-founder of the lauded jazz fusion group Weather Report.

Next to a firm base of jazz as the festival’s staple music genre, many others, such as blues, soul, funk, or hip hop, pass by. In 1982, the Superstar Quintet, which consists of the otherworldly American trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, saxophonist Joe Henderson, drummer Tony Williams, bassist Ron Carter, and pianist Kenny Baron performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague. The star-studded fivesome put on a concert of cosmic proportions.

Next to a firm base of jazz as the festival’s staple music genre, many others, such as blues, soul, funk, or hip hop, pass by. In 1982, the American jazz fusion band Spyro Gyra took the stage at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague. Having struck gold with their album "Morning Dance" just a few years prior, they played a slick set with exuberant energy.

Next to a firm base of jazz as the festival’s staple music genre, many others, such as blues, soul, funk, or hip hop, pass by. In 1989, Dutch big band and radio orchestra The Skymasters took flight at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Hague. Joining them is jazz legend Clark Terry on trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals in this exciting collaboration.
