FÊTE DE LA MUSIQUE
SATURDAY, JUNE 21 FROM 14:00
Fête de la musique – an annual event that originates in France – celebrates the joy of music on the day of the summer solstice, June 21. As music ought to be accessible to everyone, this festival is an open-air affair with many concerts taking place in the streets. Fête de la musique is celebrated internationally, including in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Stingray DJAZZ celebrates this festive day by putting the spotlights on a variety of outdoor festivals. To begin with, witness French pianist Amaury Faye offer his perspective on the 21st-century jazz piano trio format, during his 2017 performance at Jazz à Vienne. With Louis Navarro on bass and Théo Lanau on drums – the line-up of his award-winning debut album ‘Clearway’ – Faye demonstrates why he is considered a rising star. Continue this celebration of Fête de la musique with the band Bakolo Music International, representing the pioneers of the golden age of Congolese rumba. Singer, guitarist and grand survivor Nzofu Moko Buele, known to all as Bikunda, is carrying on a torch first lit in 1948 by ‘Papa’ Wend Kolosoy, the ‘father of Congolese Rumba’ and composer of the first Rumba hit song, ‘Marie-Louise’. Lastly, enjoy Richard Bona’s masterful performance at Jazz à Vienne 2013. Bona, who conquered the world with his bass and voice decades ago, is joined on stage by trumpeter Mike Rodrigues, percussionist Luisito and Robert Quinteros, trombonist Ozzy Melendez, and pianist Osmandy Paredes, illustrating once again why audiences around the world fall for his music. Celebrate Fête de la musique on June 21 – with Stingray DJAZZ!
