INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
SATURDAY, MARCH 8 FROM 21:00
March 8 marks International Women’s Day, and Stingray DJAZZ spotlights women in jazz. Enjoy an evening filled with performances from some of the most inspiring lady jazz musicians! The night kicks off with a jazzahead! 2024 performance by Poland's pioneering all-female instrumental jazz band, O.N.E. This innovative quartet, known for its democratic approach to music-making, emphasizes the crucial role of female musicians in reshaping the music industry and advocating for gender diversity and inclusivity. Following O.N.E., the all-female multi-instrumentalist quintet Ladama, hailing from Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, and the United States, demonstrates their power as a positive force in times that desperately need tolerance and communication during their World Music Expo 2018 concert. To conclude International Women’s Day on Stingray DJAZZ, two truly exceptional voices in jazz join forces: American soul and jazz organist Rhoda Scott performs at the French Festival Jazz à Vienne alongside her compatriot, gospel and blues singer La Velle. The two deliver an intimate and beautiful show in the ancient theatre of Vienne. Appreciate these lady musicians’ impact on Saturday, March 8 – all night long on Stingray DJAZZ!

Rhoda Scott & La Velle: Hammond, Soul and Blues
SATURDAY, MARCH 8 AT 22:25
American soul and jazz organist Rhoda Scott spent most of her career in France, where she earned recognition far greater than that accorded to her in the United States. There was never any doubt about what instrument she would play as a child. "It's really the most beautiful instrument in the world,” she once stated in an interview. “The first thing I did was take my shoes off and work the pedals.” This performance at the French Festival Jazz à Vienne is extra special. Not only because of the beautiful location, but also because she shares the stage with American gospel and blues singer La Velle. Together they give an intimate and beautiful show in the antique theatre of Vienne.
