STINGRAY DJAZZ PRESENTS: INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY
APRIL 30 FROM 20:00 CEST
Since 2011, UNESCO's International Jazz Day has been raising worldwide awareness of the virtues of jazz as a force of peace, unity, and dialogue that enhances cooperation among people and is an effective educational tool. Stingray DJAZZ takes part in this year’s celebration by premiering two wonderful concerts recorded in the Netherlands in 2020: enjoy the Jurgen Burdorf Band’s performance from Theater Parkvilla in Alphen aan den Rijn at 20:00 CEST, followed at 21:00 CEST by the Frank Paavo Quintet featuring Joris Teepe live from Cafe Miles in Amersfoort.
Jurgen Burdorf Band - Theater Parkvilla
FRIDAY, APRIL 30 AT 20:00 CEST
Guitarist Jurgen Burdorf was trained at the Amsterdam Conservatory and is a much sought-after session musician today. His passion lies in his self-written songs that have the characteristic sound of jazz, rock, and Americana. An agenda emptied by COVID-19 has made the Burdorf's new music rich and varied, with his expressive power as a guitarist and composer only increasing. He and his Jurgen Burdorf Band play new repertoire from his fourth studio album.
Frank Paavo Quintet feat. Joris Teepe - Café Miles
FRIDAY, APRIL 30 AT 21:00 CEST
Saxophonist Frank Paavo has been active on the jazz scene of Amsterdam and the Netherlands since the early 1980s. His music is inspired by the hard-bop sounds of the late 1950s and early 1960s, full of positive energy, rhythmic intensity, and good old-fashioned swing. Among Paavo’s major influences are Wayne Shorter and Charles Mingus. The Dutch jazzman grew up with their music and deserves credit for his effort to revive it by doing what all great jazz musicians of this era did: by playing their very own music. In this October 2020 concert from Amersfoort's Café Miles, Frank Paavo performs with Kurt Weiss (trumpet), Dirk Balthaus (piano), Joris Teepe (bass), and Jeroen van Helsdingen (drums).
