DJAZZ PRESENTS: BEBOP - CHARLIE PARKER 100

Miles Davis once summarized the history of jazz in four words: “Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker”. While Armstrong is considered jazz's first genius, Charlie Parker most strongly influenced the course the genre was to take. Not only did the virtuoso alto saxophonist completely reshape jazz improvisation, he also stood at the cradle of the bebop revolution. Charlie Parker was born on August 29, 1920, and Stingray DJAZZ celebrates his centenary with musicians who co-created the bebop style with him. The idiosyncratic pianist and composer Thelonious Monk (1917-1982) is one of the all-time greats of jazz. He is seen here in performance with his quartet in Copenhagen, Denmark (April 17, 1966) and Warsaw, Poland (April 4, 1966).
