DJAZZ PRESENTS: BEBOP - CHARLIE PARKER 100

SATURDAYS THROUGHOUT AUGUST AT 21:00 CEST

Miles Davis once summarized the history of jazz in four words: “Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker”. While Armstrong is considered jazz's first genius, Charlie Parker most strongly influenced the course the genre was to take. Not only did the virtuoso alto saxophonist completely reshape jazz improvisation, he also stood at the cradle of the bebop revolution. Charlie Parker was born on August 29, 1920, and Stingray DJAZZ celebrates his centenary with musicians who co-created the bebop style with him. Watch Thelonious Monk in performance on August 1 at 21:00 CEST. Check out Art Blakey's thunderous concert on August 8 at 21:00 CEST. Don't miss out on saxophone colossus Sonny Rollins on August 15 at 21:00 CEST. See the charismatic Dexter Gordon on stage on August 22 at 21:00 CEST. Lastly, on Parker's actual birthday, Stingray DJAZZ presents a performance of his closest musical associate, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, on August 29 at 21:00 CEST.
