STINGRAY DJAZZ PRESENTS: SPRING SPECIAL
MARCH 13 & 20 AT 21:00 CET
“Spring is here! Why doesn't my heart go dancing? Spring is here! Why isn't the waltz entrancing?” wrote Lorenz Hart to the melody of Richard Rodgers back in 1938. The overall mood described by the lyrics probably applies very well to the world's current situation, given the COVID-19 pandemic. For those who spend a lot of time at home, Stingray DJAZZ presents two great concerts by Dutch jazz pianist Peter Beets: watch his Electric Band's performance on March 13 at 21:00 CET, and enjoy his collaboration with the New Jazz Orchestra and French vocalist Camille Bertault on March 20 at 21:00 CET.
Peter Beets Electric Band - De Doelen, Rotterdam
SATURDAY, MARCH 13 AT 21:00 CET
World-class Dutch jazz pianist Peter Beets has shared the stage with jazz greats Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Toots Thielemans, Elvin Jones, George Coleman, Johnny Griffin, Benny Golson, and John Clayton. With a music teacher for a mother, and an Oscar Peterson and Art Blakey enthusiast for a father, Beets was surrounded by music from an early age. But although music was in their blood, neither parent associated the word “musician” with "career" – until their three sons Marius (bassist), Alexander (tenor saxophonist) and Peter (piano) proved them wrong. In this concert recording from De Doelen in Rotterdam, Peter Beets (Fender Rhodes) teams up with Martijn Vink (drums), Frans van Geest (bass), Martijn van Iterson (guitar) and Ruud Breuls (trumpet).
Peter Beets & Friends - Het Concertgebouw
SATURDAY, MARCH 20 AT 21:00 CET
Pianist Peter Beets and the Henk Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra performed at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on April 22, 2019. French singer Camille Bertault made a special guest appearance. In 2018, the New Jazz Orchestra was founded by two veterans of Dutch jazz: pianist Peter Beets and arranger Henk Meutgeert. This new big band consists of top tier young jazz talents from the Netherlands. French jazz vocalist Camille Bertault came into the public eye after she penned French lyrics to saxophonist John Coltrane’s famous song Giant Steps, and, most impressively, sang Coltrane’s solo by heart in a YouTube video. A feat of extraordinary technical ability and serious improvisational skill!
